Monica Yeanie Ghaliwa

Monica Yeanie Ghaliwa is a passionate advocate, activist, and the first female blind journalist in Sierra Leone. She established the Inspiration for Human Development (IHD) to empower and advocate for the welfare of women and girls with disabilities.

In pursuance of her dream of changing the negative perception society holds about persons with disabilities, she participated in a popular reality TV show called House Mate Salon, and was recognized and awarded by the Africa Achievers Award in April 2019 for her remarkable performance on the show.

Other awards she received the same year included the Youth and Children’s Advocacy Panel (YACAP) where she was recognised for her strong and relentless advocacy on issues of young women and girls living with disabilities. She’s a participant of the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) in Ghana; and works for the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) as a radio presenter and reporter.
