“We spend far too much time complaining about the way things are and forget that we have the power to change anything and everything”

Mariama Turay

Mariama is one of the very few professional women drivers in the country and wears her profession with a badge of honour. In a country where women drivers are mostly viewed as ‘incompetent’ drivers, Mariama holds her own against any man, vehicle, or terrain. A mum, wife, and full-time employee, she sets out to be a role model to her children and young girls in her community. Operating in a male-oriented sector, Mariama understand why to be a feminist is critical for the development of a nation but also for changing the narrative of what it means to be a woman or girl in a male dominated society.

Hosted by Purposeful and convened by the African Federation for Sexual Health and Rights.
