Association for Women and Children at Risk (AWCR)

Association for Women and Children at Risk (AWCR) was established in 2013 with the aim of mitigating all forms of violence against women and girls. The founder, a survivor of early and forced marriage, was inspired by her experiences and the desire to protect girl’s rights. AWCR established safe spaces in Wilberforce and Regent where they work with girls between 10 to 19 year of age, in age-appropriate groups. AWCR runs safe spaces where they support girls to learn life skills, and build up their literacy and numeracy skills, as well as learn basic business skills. They provide start-up capital for out of school girls to start viable business ventures. AWCR also gives educational support to in school girls who also participate in girls clubs where they develop their life skills.
