Umu is highly motivated and passionate about working with adolescent girls. She is skilled in designing, planning , implementing and monitoring gender and child protection related programmes.

Her career stemmed from volunteering at Restless Development as a Peer Group Educator on Sexual Reproductive Health for adolescent girls in 2012.

She worked for Plan International as Project Coordinator for an EU funded project – My Body My Right, which focused on eradicating harmful traditional practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Child Marriage. She developed partnerships with children, families, organisations, and community members to establish Adolescent Human Rights Clubs that make bi-laws to end FGM and Child Marriage in 30 communities in northern Sierra Leone – Bombali District.

She provided oversight for the Child Protection component of an Irish Aid-funded project led by Save The Children Sierra Leone and also designed coaching and mentoring sessions for teenage mothers to be enrolled in school or alternative learning centres.
